STC Higher Education has launched Cyber-Guardians, a new Non-formal learning programme that introduces teenagers to the world of cybersecurity through practical, hands-on experiences. Designed for Year 9, Year 10, and Year 11 students (ages 13–16), the programme helps learners develop digital skills while exploring how technology shapes the world around them.
Cyber-Guardians go beyond everyday technology use. Instead, students take part in workshops, interactive sessions, gamified challenges, and real-world activities that bring cybersecurity concepts to life. Along the way, they explore how cyber threats affect people and organisations, while learning how to stay safe and make smarter decisions online.
The programme covers key topics such as digital privacy, online safety, cyber threats, vulnerability management, and incident response. In addition, students strengthen their critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
Building Future Cyber Defenders
A key goal of Cyber-Guardians is to help students develop a Cyber Defender mindset. Through practical tasks and collaborative activities, they learn how to identify risks, protect information, and approach digital challenges with confidence.
Furthermore, the programme follows a Non-formal Learning approach that complements traditional education. Rather than relying on theory alone, it encourages active participation, curiosity, and hands-on discovery.
Participants can also earn their first non-formal credit towards the Secondary School Certificate and Profile (SSQ&P). As a result, they gain an early introduction to future opportunities in cybersecurity, digital technologies, and related fields.
No previous cybersecurity knowledge is required. Instead, Cyber-Guardians welcomes students who are curious about technology and eager to discover how the digital world works.
As cybersecurity becomes increasingly important across every industry, Cyber-Guardians offers young learners an exciting first step into a field that continues to grow in demand.
