MSc Cyber Security
The rapid growth of mobile devices, converged applications, and Cloud Technologies, including initiatives like Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) and Choose Your Own Device (CYOD), has increased the number of threats in our cyber environment. Digital information technologies continue to expand cyberspace, creating new challenges that require robust cyber security measures.
The MSc Cyber Security addresses the growing demand for qualified professionals in this field and the projected industry shortage. Leading experts, researchers, and trainers designed the course to expose students to cutting-edge tools, techniques, and technologies in cyber defence and exploitation.
Students develop a diverse skill set in security management, gaining practical knowledge and experience that prepares them to excel in their careers.
The entry requirements for the MSc Cyber Security are as follows:
Academic Pathway
- A degree classification of 2:2 or above in Computer Science or equivalent or a closely related subject.
OR
- A Postgraduate Certificate in Computer Science or a related subject with a minimum grade of 50% in all modules.
Work Experience Pathway
- Evidence of industrial certifications in Information security such as CISSP, CEH, BCS will also be considered for suitable candidates with a minimum of 3 years working experience in related industries.
- All work experience-based applicants will be required to provide a reference detailing your role(s) and responsibilities from your line manager. This would be requested after you have successfully applied.
English Certification
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – Overall Score of 6.5 with no component less than 6.0
- TOEFL – Overall Score of 79 with no component score less than 21
- Cambridge: Advanced English, First English – Overall score of 176 with no component scores less than 169
- Cambridge: English Proficiency (Online Verification Required) – Overall score of 176 with no component scores less than 169
The University accepts regional based qualifications deemed to be equivalent. Qualifications must have been completed within the last 5 years.

- Demonstrate in-depth understanding and the ability to use modern technologies, techniques and methods in Cyber Exploitation and defence to develop both technical and management controls and solutions against Information security threats. Analyse strategic perspectives regionally, nationally and internationally at organisation and sector levels.
- Acquire and establish a systematic technical expertise and knowledge in risk assessment methodologies and frameworks and regulatory and legal requirements and compliance within a given organisational context in Cyber Security.
- Undertake a technical analysis of complex scientific evidence and argumentation independently of current knowledge in the subject matter and apply this in a range of relevant contexts in the cyber-physical space with regards to security and safety.
- Flexibly and autonomously apply knowledge in order to undertake a series of activities related to core aspects of security so as to provide innovative and cost-effective solutions adhering to ethical dimensions codes or practice and existing standards.
- Demonstrate your transferable skills to analyse self and other actions in enabling a wide range of vocational outputs within an organisational context and adhere to legal, social and ethical frameworks in the area of practice.
- Undertake a substantial independent piece of research work that tackles a complex problem in the area of Cyber Security, using incomplete information and demonstrating your ability to analyse, critically evaluate the scenario and utilize this to develop an appropriate solution.
